About Papia GhosalPapia Das Baul
Papia Das Baul is Baul singer, lyricist, composer, powerful poet, actor and a fine artist simultaneously based in London, Prague and Kolkata. She is a unique versatile personality who had made a significant brand image in poetry and painting with her signature birth name Papia Ghoshal. Many of her paintings and poems carry the strong influence of the Baul philosophy. She is the disciple of legendary Baul Samrat Pandit Purna Das Baul who bestowed upon her the musical and spiritual name Papia Das Baul. Papia spends most of her times in the ruaral belts of India and Bangladesh where her fellow bauls and fakirs are located.
Papia also is a unique performer of the rare genre of rural Jhumur songs from the tribal areas of Bengal. Her exotic raw voice of the soil gives the traditional songs a very individual feel which is natural and original. Being a poet and a lyricist, she also composes her own songs, based on the traditions, practice and tantric philosophy of the Bauls, which is becoming obsolete in this modern digital world even in the villages of Bengal.
Papia Das Baul has performed in various festivals and important stages in Europe and in India. She appears in various television and radio shows in London, Czech Republic and India. Papia Ghoshal is the international editor of a British heritage magaznine first founded in the UK in 1825, called The London Miscellany. She is the author of eleven poetry books and the only Asian to have won prestigious awards in the EU, like 'Medal of Franz Kafka' Award', 'European Union of Fine Arts Award', 'World Prize of Salvador Dali', Trebbia International Award. She has received the ‘Mother Teresa International Award’, Kolkata Internation Poetry Award, Rabindranath Tagore Award, Lucknow Literally Festival Award, Kolkata Internationa Festival Award, Cine Central International Award, and many others in India
Papia will be accompanied by Jonathan Mayer on Sitar and Dotara, (include the rest of the musicians please)
